  • Seek and find areas of agreement.
Conflicts often escalate when the parties believe the gap between is widening. Identifying and acknowledging areas of agreement — whether they involve perceptions, emotions, opinions, or options — will aid you in getting to resolutions.

Skilled mediators always start by finding common ground. Then, they move on to negotiate differences.
